You gather parts all over and build up your base as you see fit to defend yourself from different types of infected mutants. It has a Breath or the Wild feel in those mechanics. In campaign, the survival part is realistic where you have to hunt for food and gather water, otherwise you can start losing health and stamina and eventually die. Your ‘avatar’ grows as you play, learning skills and being able to play different classes. I like how you can mold this character that comes to life in the cinematics and story. It’s nothing extravagant and is like a B horror film in some ways which is good because it knows it’s a spin off and doesn’t damage the Metal Gear brand. I bought it thinking it’s a “game-as-service” type game where you log in and do a match or two online but was surprised by the campaign content. The gameplay and progression has a welcoming pace. Now after a few hours I am really enjoying this game. Struggling to locate the necessary materials in Story mode to enable you to progress further? Then have a go at the multiplayer Horde mode where the rewards you can obtain are plentiful and the great news is that you can take these supplies back into Story mode to progress your mission. Play as a single player backed up with three AI team mates or in a co-op multiplayer with three of your comrades online. They then find themselves transported to an alternative reality (along with what remains of the base) packed with hostile, man-eating zombies known as “creatures.” Their objective – to locate and source materials that will enable them to return to their own world, but most of all – survive! After Big Boss and Kazuhira have escaped from Mother Base, a wormhole opens above it and the offshore plant is sucked up into it, along with the few surviving soldiers. Set in an open world and seen from a third person perspective, Survive is a spinoff episode of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
Metal Gear: Survive is the latest instalment of the Metal Gear series and the first since the controversial departure of Hideo Kojima from Konami.
